Allahabad High Court to Hear Sambhal Jama Masjid Violence Case Today
In Prayagraj, the Allahabad High Court gears up to tackle a key petition in the Sambhal violence case on Monday. Mosque committee chairman Zafar Ali filed this plea to challenge the police charge sheet linked to the deadly clashes at Sambhal Jama Masjid. The hearing comes before Justice Sameer Jain’s bench later in the day.
The trouble started on November 24, 2024, during a court-ordered survey of the historic Sambhal Jama Masjid. What began as a routine check turned chaotic, sparking riots that left five people dead and many injured. Zafar Ali’s name popped up in the probe, leading to his arrest and jail time. But the High Court granted him bail on July 24, giving him a breather.
This latest twist follows a massive charge sheet from Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT). Spanning over 4,400 pages, it covers six cases tied to the Sambhal riots. Cops have pinned the mastermind role on Shariq Satha, a local from Sambhal. They say he ran a huge car theft racket, stealing more than 300 vehicles from Delhi-NCR. Even bigger shock: links to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim and Pakistan’s ISI spy agency.
Investigators claim Satha escaped India with a fake passport. Their digs uncovered shady money transfers to Sambhal accounts and foreign-made bullets at the clash sites. Satha’s buddies allegedly fired the shots that killed four victims. Oddly, no FIR exists for the fifth death, sparking more questions about the Sambhal violence probe.
The charge sheet doesn’t hold back—it names big names like Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq and the son of MLA Iqbal Mahmood as accused. Overall, 37 people face specific charges, while another 3,750 unnamed folks are in the mix for the riots.
As the Allahabad High Court dives into Zafar Ali’s plea to quash the charge sheet, eyes stay glued on how this unfolds in the ongoing Sambhal Jama Masjid case. The full story of the November 2024 clashes could see new turns soon.
