India’s archery team is riding a strong wave at the 2025 Asian Archery Championships in Dhaka. The compound mixed‑team pair of Abhishek Verma and Deepshikha Kumar made a splash by beating Kazakhstan 156–153 in the semifinal, setting the stage for a final showdown against hosts Bangladesh.
Verma and Deepshikha had a smooth run, winning most of their shots and securing another spot in the final. They will face the Bangladeshi team that pulled off a shock upset over South Korea 158–153 in the other semifinal. If India can repeat last year’s success in Bangkok, the duo could claim a second straight crown at the continental event.
India’s medal tally is climbing fast. The compound mixed‑team victory guarantees a tally of five medals so far, with the potential for seven more across all categories.
In the recurve section, the new mixed pair Yashdeep Bhoge and Anshika Kumari knocked out Bangladesh 5–1 to reach the semifinals. They’ll now battle Chinese Taipei, who took the match 0–6, in a tough bronze‑medal playoff against Korea. The team’s progress keeps India in the hunt for more medals on the recurve side.
Earlier rounds saw Indian archers push forward in every team event. The compound men’s and women’s teams both made it to the finals, while the recurve men’s team secured a place in the title round. Individual contests also look hopeful: women’s stars Ankita Bhakat, Deepika Kumari, and Sangeeta have all reached the semifinals, while men’s competitors Dhiraj Bommadevara and Rahul are fighting for a spot in the final. Compound women’s archers A. Pradeep and Jyothi Surekha Vennam also advanced to the last four.
Overall, India stands poised to dominate both compound and recurve events, aiming for a clean sweep of medals at the Asian Archery Championships.
