Mumbai’s cricket scene got a fresh boost as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) wrapped up its annual general meeting on Sunday. Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas stepped up as the new BCCI president, marking an exciting shift for Indian cricket fans.
Arun Dhumal, who stays on as chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL), shared his enthusiasm for the newly formed BCCI committees. “We’re all set to team up and push forward,” Dhumal told reporters outside BCCI headquarters. He congratulated everyone elected to their roles, praising the board’s collaborative spirit.
Looking ahead, Dhumal highlighted big plans to turn the IPL into the world’s top sports league. The cash-rich tournament has battled tough times over the past 18 years—from the COVID-19 pandemic and Operation Sindoor disruptions to weather issues that shifted matches. “Our amazing team pulled us through every challenge,” he said. “Now, we’re aiming higher to make IPL number one globally.”
Dhumal also thanked BCCI members for their trust in the new leadership. He wished the best for upcoming events, including a stellar IPL season, the men’s World Cup, and strong showings from the Indian women’s cricket team in their World Cup campaign.
The AGM stayed straightforward, focusing on last season’s progress shared in secretary meetings. “It was routine stuff, but we’re building on phenomenal work from the previous team,” Dhumal added. He believes the new group will take BCCI to new heights.
Cricket excitement doesn’t stop there. Dhumal voiced hopes for an Indian victory in the Asia Cup final against Pakistan—their first clash in 41 years. “India’s played brilliant cricket and won every game so far,” he said. “I’m rooting for a big win today.”
