The West Indies have added a new spin bowler to their squad for the three‑match ODI series against Bangladesh. Akeal Hosein, a left‑arm spinner, will arrive tonight and join the team ahead of the second ODI. Bangladesh lost the opening match by 74 runs, so the visitors are keen to level the series.
A Cricbuzz‑quoted Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official said “Akeal is expected to arrive tonight to join the ODI team.” Horsey‑said 24‑year‑old left‑arm fast bowler Ramon Simmonds also earned his maiden ODI call‑up after playing two T20Is.
Fast bowlers Jediah Blades and Shamar Joseph, who were in the original squad, are heading back to the Caribbean. Veteran all‑rounder Jason Holder is expected to join the squad on October 21 ahead of the T20I leg of the tour.
BCB had also added left‑arm spinner Nasum Ahmed to their ODI squad earlier in the series to suit the spin‑friendly pitch at Sher‑e‑Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. In the opener the slow surface helped spinners dominate. West Indies’ Khary Pierre ran through the over with an economical 1 for 19, while off‑spinner Roston Chase took two wickets. For Bangladesh, the spin pair Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam shared eight wickets, giving the hosts a confident win.
With Hosein’s arrival, West Indies aims to boost their bowling and fight back in the ongoing series. As the pitches keep turning, the added spin options could prove vital for both teams.
