Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian all‑rounder, said he is still looking forward to the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup after being left out of India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Australia tour. He told reporters after the second Test against the West Indies that the selectors had a reason for his omission and that he accepts the decision.
India will fly to Australia for a three‑match ODI series that kicks off on October 19 in Perth, with games in Adelaide on October 23 and Sydney on October 25. Shubman Gill has been given the captaincy for the tour, stepping in for Rohit Sharma, who will still play. Shreyas Iyer will act as vice‑captain. Hardik Pandya, another key all‑rounder, is also out of the squad because of an injury.
In a press conference after stumps on Day 2 of the West Indies Test, Jadeja said, “I don’t have it in my hands that I want to play, but at the end of the day, the team management, selectors, coach and captain are doing their calculations, which is why I wasn’t in the series. There must be a reason behind it. They talked to me and I was not surprised when I found out I wasn’t in the squad. That’s a good thing.” He added that he will keep working hard and hopes a chance in a major tournament like the World Cup will come his way.
Jadeja’s last ODI appearances were during this year’s ICC Champions Trophy, which India won. In that tournament he took five wickets in five matches and scored 27 runs in three innings. His career ODI figures are 2,806 runs at 32.62 and 231 wickets at 35.41, with a best score of 87 and best bowling of 5/33.
Over 12 years, Jadeja has delivered match‑winning performances across formats. He was Player of the Match in the 2013 Champions Trophy final and hit a crucial fifty in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi‑final against New Zealand. In total he has scored 7,311 international runs at 34.32 and taken 622 wickets at 29.26, including 17 five‑wicket hauls.
During the second Test against the West Indies, the world no.1 all‑rounder grabbed three wickets on Day 2, helping India maintain a massive lead as the visitors fell 378 runs behind.
India’s ODI squad for the Australia tour now includes Shubman Gill (C), Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer (VC), Axar Patel, KL Rahul (WK), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Dhruv Jurel (WK) and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
