India’s women’s cricket team just got a big scare ahead of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Fast bowler Arundhati Reddy took a nasty hit to her left knee during Thursday’s warm-up match against England in Bengaluru, and medics had to wheel her off the field.
The moment came in the 13th over at the BCCI Centre of Excellence ground. Arundhati, fresh off dismissing opener Amy Jones, charged in for her follow-through. She lunged to catch a fierce drive from England’s former captain Heather Knight, but the ball slammed right into her knee. Arundhati crumpled in pain, and the Indian medical team rushed over. After trying to help her walk, they brought out a wheelchair to get her safely off the pitch. Jemimah Rodrigues stepped in to bowl the rest of the over.
Right now, no one knows how bad the knee injury is, but the team is waiting for updates. This hits hard with India’s World Cup opener against Sri Lanka set for September 30 in Guwahati. Arundhati’s speed could be key as India chases their first-ever title on home soil—if she’s out, it might force some tough choices.
If Arundhati can’t play, selectors could turn to reserve pacer Sayali Satghare as a replacement. The team already dealt with a similar issue recently, bringing in wicketkeeper-batter Uma Chetry to cover for Yastika Bhatia’s knee injury during a training camp in Visakhapatnam.
Injuries have been a headache for India’s pace attack lately. Renuka Singh Thakur missed time after a stress injury following the WPL 2025, but she bounced back in time for the World Cup and even featured in India’s recent 2-1 series loss to Australia. Pace-bowling all-rounder Amanjot Kaur also had a back injury flare-up during the England tour, but she’s been grinding through rehab at the Centre of Excellence to make the squad.
With the tournament kicking off soon, India hopes this latest blow doesn’t derail their campaign.
