Australia’s head coach Shelley Nitschke says she is hopeful that captain Alyssa Healy will be fit for the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup semi‑final against India. Healy is nursing a calf strain that kept her out of Australia’s recent wins over England and South Africa at Holkar Stadium. With extra recovery days before the match on October 30 at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Nitschke believes the skipper has a chance to return to full fitness.
During the league stage, Australia beat India by three wickets, with Healy smashing 142 off a brief spell to help chase 331 in record time. The win gave the reigning champions confidence, but Healy’s spring injury still leaves her status uncertain.
“I wasn’t quite up to it here, but we’ll keep assessing her,” Nitschke told ICC. “We’re hopeful for the semi, and with a few more days we can see if she’s ready.”
Australia will also rely on their spinners. Leg‑spinner Alana King was bowled out of the game in the Indian victory in Visakhapatnam, but she returned with spectacular figures in the match against South Africa—taking 7‑18 to set a World Cup record. Nitschke said she plans to use King differently, matching her to the right batters and game situation.
“I’m pleased with King’s recent performances,” Nitschke added. “We’ll decide on the best bowler for each phase of the match.”
As the semi‑final approaches, Australian fans hope Healy’s calf heals, and the team is poised to lift the trophy again.
