Women’s WC: South Africa elect to bowl against India as rain delays start

At the ACA‑VDCA International Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam, South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl first in the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup match 10 between India and South Africa. A brief rain spell had soaked the outfield, forcing the ground crew to cover the pitch, but the delay was short. The first delivery will take place at 4 p.m., with no overs lost.

Both teams tweaked their line‑ups. India added Amanjot Kaur for Renuka Thakur, while South Africa brought in Tumi Sekhukhune to replace Masabata Klaas. “The rain changed my mind to bowl first,” said captain Laura Wolvaardt. “We’ve made a change, Sekhukhune comes in. We’re hoping for another great day.” She also praised Tazmin Brits, “She’s been brilliant. We want her form to continue.” Ethiopia speaking, India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur said she too had wanted to bowl first but now hopes her side can set a strong total. “Amanjot replaces Renuka,” she said. “Every match matters, and we want to keep improving.”

Heavy clouds loom and more rain could arrive later, so the arena lights were already switched on to aid visibility. This game is a turning point for both squads. India, chasing their first World Cup title, seek to ride a winning streak after two victories. South Africa, a three‑time semifinalist, aim for a second win after a loss to England in their opening match.
