Dhaka – The Bangladesh Cricket Board’s women’s wing is launching a serious probe into a sexual‑harassment claim made by former national captain Jahanara Alam, according to the wing’s chairman, Abdur Razzak.
Razzak said the board will work closely with government law‑enforcement agencies to pursue the matter with full sincerity.

The allegations, which Jahanara revealed in a YouTube interview with Riasat Azim, accused former selector‑manager Manjurul Islam of harassing her during the 2022 Women’s World Cup in South Africa. She also named Bangladesh Cricket Board employee Sarfaraz Babu as making a proposal on behalf of the late Towhid Mahmud. Jahanara says Manjurul repeatedly pressed or hugged her, actions she described as inappropriate and frightening.

“We are treating this issue with the seriousness it deserves,” Razzak told Telecom Asia Sport on Friday. “It’s not just one cricketer’s story—it concerns the honour of women’s cricket in Bangladesh.”
The chairman added that the board will convene with the BCB president, Bulbul Aminul Islam (Bhai), once he returns from abroad to decide on next steps. If needed, the board will involve government agencies to ensure the investigation leaves no stone unturned.

“Women’s cricket must feel safe,” Razzak said. “If we fail to protect players, future talent will waver in trust and step away from the sport.”

Alam has played 135 white‑ball matches for Bangladesh, taking 48 wickets in ODIs and 60 in T20s. She previously wrote to the board about the issue, but found her concerns ignored.

Bangladesh’s sports advisor, Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain, announced the government will fully support Jahanara and punish anyone who aided her harassment.

The investigation highlights growing scrutiny over sexual harassment in sports and reaffirms the board’s commitment to safeguarding its women athletes.
