England’s women’s cricket team secured a comfortable eight‑wicket victory over New Zealand in the final group‑stage match of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. The game took place at the ACA‑VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday, and was highlighted by Amy Jones’ fluent unbeaten 86.

England’s bowlers made a strong statement early on. Linsey Smith took 3 for 30, while captains Nat Sciver‑Brunt and Alice Capsey each claimed two wickets. New Zealand could manage just 168 runs, collapsing from 89 for 1 as they lost the last nine wickets for only 79 runs.

The chase was smooth for England. Amy Jones led the way, hitting 11 fours and a six, and sharing a solid 75‑run opening partnership with Tammy Beaumont. Jones finished on 86 not out from 92 balls, and England wrapped up the target with 124 balls to spare. The win guarantees England a finish in second place on the points table, setting up a semi‑final clash against South Africa in Guwahati on October 29.

This high group finish is crucial. If a washout affects the semi‑final, England will automatically move on to the final in Guwahati on November 2. Rain has already disrupted several matches in the tournament, so the higher placement could be decisive.

New Zealand’s skipper Sophie Devine ended her ODI career after the match. She walked off with a warm guard of honour from both sides, smiling with teammates and England players alike. The mood was respectful and celebratory, with hugging and applause marking the close of Devine’s long ODI journey.

In summary, England’s 172‑run victory over New Zealand’s 168‑run total underscores a dominant performance from both bat and ball. Amy Jones stood out with her unbeaten 86, while England’s bowlers turned a promising New Zealand start into a minor total. The win positions England favourably for the knock‑out stages of the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup.
