Navi Mumbai – Fresh hope and nerves swirl as South Africa’s captain Laura Wolvaardt talks about the pressure and potential advantage of India’s home‑crowd support in Sunday’s ICC Women’s World Cup final at DY Patil Stadium.

Wolvaardt said the huge, expectant crowd could actually help her team. “It’s going to be a very exciting opportunity, but I think it puts a lot of pressure on them as well,” she told reporters. “They have the whole country behind them and are expected to win. I guess that plays in our favor, hopefully. We’re very excited for the game.”

The final is historic for both sides. India is chasing its first World Cup win in women’s cricket, while South Africa wants to lift its maiden trophy. The Proteas have the edge in past World Cup show‑downs, leading 3‑0, but Wolvaardt stressed that a final is a blank slate. “Every match starts at zero,” she said. “We can’t bring history into this game. Whoever stays calm under pressure will win.”

Both teams have heartbreak to leave behind. Wolvaardt said she keeps focus on the present instead of the trophy. “I’m trying not to think too far ahead. Just focus on what I need to do tonight in practice and tomorrow morning. Slow it down, breathe, we’re a group.”

For South Africa, the win would spark a new generation of players. “A World Cup win will be special for women’s cricket back home,” she said. “We just had domestic contracts introduced. Seeing a World Cup trophy on TV will inspire countless girls.”

The final in Navi Mumbai promises drama, national pride, and the chance to see history unfold. Stay tuned for an exciting showdown between India and South Africa.
