In Guwahati, the White Ferns pulled off their first win in the 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, beating Bangladesh by a massive 100‑run margin at the Baraspara Stadium. New Zealand captain Sophie Devine called the victory “really pleasing”, saying her side finally found balance after two narrow defeats.
Devine, who scored 63 off 85, and Brooke Halliday (69 off 104) rebuilt the innings after New Zealand was 35 for 3, thanks to a 112‑run partnership for the fourth wicket. The White Ferns finished at 227 for 9, with support from Maddy Green and Lea Tahuhu. Bangladesh were all out for 127 in just 39.5 overs, their bowlers hampered by a slow pitch.
“I was low on sugar, so I had to grab some jellies to keep going,” Devine joked, revealing how the right‑hander managed her diabetes under the hot conditions. She added that the bowler’s performance sealed the game, describing it as a clinical display that left Bangladesh “reeling”.
Bangladesh’s bowlers, led by Rabeya Khan’s 3‑for‑30, started strong but struggled in the final overs. In batting, only Fahima Khatun (34), Rabeya Khan (25) and Nahida Akter (17) reached double figures before the innings collapsed.
“Anyone can beat anyone,” Devine said. She praised the White Ferns for taking every game seriously, while Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana admitted that the team’s batting consistency remains a concern. “We bowl well at the start but let in boundaries at the end,” Sultana said. “We need more experience against top sides to lift our performance.”
The win gives New Zealand a boost as they chase more points in the group stages of the World Cup, while Bangladesh looks to regroup and improve for their next match.
