Guwahati, Oct 10 – In a hard‑won 2025 Women’s World Cup clash at Baraspara Stadium, New Zealand Women folded to a sleepy start before Sophie Devine and Brooke Halliday turned the game around with a 112‑run partnership for the fourth wicket. The White Ferns finished on 227 for 9 in 50 overs, while Bangladesh Women chased the target on a slow, sluggish pitch.

The match began with New Zealand facing a cautious opener on a slow‑moving surface. Suzie Bates provided a solid platform but was dismissed for 29, sparking a brief collapse. Partner Georgia Plimmer fell for just 4 after a stumped over, and young Amelia Kerr was clean‑thrown by Rabeya Khan for a single, leaving the team a whisker over 35 for 2 at the end of the powerplay.

Devine and Halliday joined forces and steadied the innings with patient, rotation‑heavy play. Halliday scored a composed 69 off 80 balls, while Devine added 63 from 82 balls before her innings ended. The duo’s partnership was the backbone of a 227‑run total.

Lower‑order shooters – Maddy Green (25), Isabella Gaze (12), Lea Tahuhu (12) and Eden Carson (4) – added valuable runs to tip the score over 200.

Bangladesh, who pushed the first 20 overs hard, were unable to maintain wickets during the middle phase, allowing New Zealand to rebuild. Pakistani–born leg‑spinner Rabeya Khan was the match’s standout bowler, capturing 3 for 30 from 10 overs. She was supported by Marufa Akter (1‑58), Nahida Akter (1‑36), Nishita Akter Nishi (1‑47) and Fahima Khatun (1‑37). The bowlers, however, paid a high price for the loose deliveries.

With 227 runs to chase on a slow, sluggish pitch, Bangladesh will need a calm and measured batting effort to overcome the target and keep their momentum in the 2025 Women’s World Cup. The match showcases the importance of partnerships and disciplined bowling in international women’s cricket.
