Stalin slams ‘Chief Minister Dreamers’, voter roll ‘manipulation’

In Chennai, Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M.K. Stalin opened the Progressive Book Fair on Saturday at Valluvar Kottam. The fair, a celebration of Tamil literary culture, will stay open for the public until November 16.

Stalin kicked off the event by handing over a copy of his new book, Kaalathin Nirum Karuppum Chuvappum (“The Colour of the Times is Black and Red”). After the release, he toured the exhibitions and launched a two‑day seminar called “Seventy‑Five Years of the Two‑Colour Flag.” The seminar pays tribute to the DMK’s emblem and the party’s journey over a decade and a half.

During his speech, Stalin addressed the crowd and spoke sharply to newcomers in Tamil politics. “Some people start parties just to win the Chief Minister’s post,” he said. “The DMK did not enter power by declaring it would be led by me. We have earned our place through years of learning, hard work, and a clear ideology.” The audience applauded his defense of the party’s legacy.

He warned that opponents who see the DMK as a threat lack historical awareness. Stalin said, “Those who want to defeat the DMK simply cannot succeed on ideological grounds. They are turning to the Election Commission to tamper with voter rolls.” He added that the government would fight any such tactics “both legally and politically.”

Stalin urged DMK volunteers to help keep the voter list clean, while also protecting the rights of legitimate voters. “Fake names can be removed, but real voters must always retain their place on the rolls.”

The Progressive Book Fair remains a highlight of Chennai’s cultural calendar and a platform for Tamil writers, thinkers and the public to come together and celebrate.
