The India women’s cricket team faced a wet and windy night at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, where rain stopped play for hours. The match against Bangladesh was finally called off, but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said the squad’s effort on the field was worth applauding.
India had to play without pacer Kranti Gaud and experienced spinner Sneh Rana, but rookie bowlers Amanjot Kaur and Radha Yadav were ready to step in. Their tight bowling kept Bangladesh stuck at 119 for 9 in just 27 overs, a clear display of control that impressed the captain.
“Today’s bowling was balanced and clear,” Kaur told reporters. “Radha gave us another player we can rely on next game,” she added. “Amanjot’s return with the ball added more armour to our attack.”
The team’s main worry is young opener Pratika Rawal, who fell on the wet pitch during a fielding drill and injured her knee and ankle. The medical staff are monitoring her progress, and Kaur hopes she’ll return in time for the crucial semifinal against Australia on Thursday, October 30, at the same venue.
“We’ve played good cricket in the league matches and everyone has contributed,” Kaur said. “It’s a very important game for us, and we’ll carry that good feeling forward as we prepare. We keep talking about enjoying ourselves, and that’s what we want to do.”
With the rain‑abandoned match a reminder of how unpredictable conditions can be, India’s women look forward to delivering a strong performance in the semifinal. The women’s World Cup, Tokyo 2024, and the upcoming clash with Australia keep fans rooting for the team as they continue to show resilience and skill on the field.
