The 28th match of the ICC Women’s World Cup between India and Bangladesh is set to start at 8:05 pm on Sunday at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The match has been shortened to 27 overs per side, and the power‑play in the second innings will be limited to five overs.
Bangladesh were batting and had reached 39 for 2 in 12.2 overs when a heavy downpour forced the teams back into the dugouts at 5:55 pm. The rain was so intense that play had to pause until the weather cleared.
The match scheduling was again affected by rain. At 5:05 pm, after a second delay, ground staff started removing the covers and the rain eased. Umpires Lauren Agenbag and Sue Redfern walked a quick inspection of the pitch. They found a few spots that were still wet, but the ground crew dried them out and the umpires cleared the field, allowing play to resume at 8:05 pm.
This was the third time rain disrupted the day’s schedule. The first interruption happened after the toss, when the weather worsened around 3:10 pm. The official start time was 3:25 pm, but the pitch had to be covered when the rain intensified. It was nearly 30 minutes before the cover crews could start getting the field ready again. They opened the covers at about 4:25 pm and used “super soppers” to dry the mound. After a quick inspection, the umpires gave the green light for play at 5:00 pm.
India’s captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bowl first against Bangladesh. While the result of this match won’t change the semi‑final lineup, it’s the final league game for both sides and will decide the points table standing.
The match promises an exciting finish to a day already full of weather twists. Fans can expect a tense finish as both sides settle back on the pitch after the downpours.
