Indore – Australia’s all‑rounder Annabel Sutherland finished the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup match in style, scoring an unbeaten 98 against England. She also took three wickets for just 60 runs as the Australia women pulled away to win by six wickets.
Sutherland’s run‑scoring spell came off 112 balls, laced with nine fours and a six. She and Ashleigh Gardner forged a 180‑run partnership, with Gardner also finishing on 104 not out. The Australian side chased the target comfortably, needing only 57 balls to secure victory.
“I loved the feel of the game after a slow start,” Sutherland said. “Playing with Ash kept the scoreboard moving. Once I got the rhythm, it was a lot of fun. The fast outfield added valuable strokes.” She added she had been honing her mental game, staying positive and trusting herself once she got her foot in the batter’s stance.
The match also showcased Australia’s spin bowlers. A key moment came when Alana King bowled a tight spell, taking one wicket for 20 runs in ten overs. “Our spinners, especially Alana, made a big impact in the middle overs, knocking the momentum from England’s side,” Sutherland noted.
Australia entered the game as reigning champions and are now atop the World Cup points table with 11 points, slipping no falls in four matches. Their next fixture is against South Africa at the same venue on October 25. The team’s confident performance keeps them strong for the knockout stages of the tournament.
