India dropped Jemimah Rodrigues into the starting XI after New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The match was the 24th game of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025, played on Thursday night.

A Simple Change for the Hosts

India’s only alteration from the Indore loss to England was bringing Rodrigues in for Amanjot Kaur, while the New Zealand side kept its XI unchanged. The White Ferns, who have struggled to bat in recent matches after two games were washed out, felt confident with a solid training regime.

Pitch Talk

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said the pitch would remain consistent in the second half and might even improve under the lights. “We’ve been training hard,” she added, stressing that the team was eager to score runs after limited recent batting play.

India’s skipper Harmanpreet Kaur welcomed the conditions. She called the track “good” and felt the extra batter in her lineup could help India achieve a healthy score. Kaur noted that the team had often fallen short after early starts, but she urged her side to enjoy the moment and play the game well.

Stakes

Both teams need a win to advance. A victory would see India through to the semi‑finals, while New Zealand would still await the final league fixtures. A win over India would give the White Ferns a strong push toward the next stage.

Team Squads

India – Smriti Mandhana, Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (wicket‑keeper), Deepti Sharma, Sneh Rana, Renuka Singh, Kranti Gaud, Shree Charani.

New Zealand – Suzie Bates, Georgia Plimmer, Amelia Kerr, Sophie Devine (captain), Brooke Halliday, Maddy Green, Isabella Gaze (wicket‑keeper), Jess Kerr, Rosemary Mair, Eden Carson, Lea Tahuhu.

The game continues with both teams aiming to capitalise on the lively pitch and the changing lights, and the wrestling stay fixed in an exciting stage of the Women’s ODI World Cup.
