Australia’s skipper Alyssa Healy celebrated a bold win in the Women’s World Cup after her side chased a target of 331 runs in 50 overs against India. The match finished with Australia trailing by just three wickets and five balls to spare, a result that surprised many fans and critics alike.
Healy played the star role, smashing 142 from 107 balls for 21 fours and three sixes. She built important stand‑ups with teammates Phoebe Litchfield (40), Ellyse Perry (47 not out) and Ashleigh Gardner (45). Their partnership helped the team reach 331/7 in 49 overs, clinching the victory.
“We’re glad we may not need to chase such big totals again,” Healy said after the game. “Getting a quick start was key, and keeping the run‑rate steady was brilliant.” The scoreboard shows Australia earned two points for the victory.
India looked threatening early, with Smriti Mandhana scoring 80 and Pratika Rawal 75. Their 155‑run partnership laid a basis that could have seen the hosts push beyond 400. However, from a strong position of 192/1 India lost nine wickets for 138, including the final six for just 36, and were eventually all out for 330.
Annabel Sutherland, the experienced pacer, turned the fight around for Australia. She took five wickets for 40 runs, the best bowling figures in the match. “She was perfect from a length perspective,” Sutherland said. “We hung on after a few wobbling deliveries.”
Healy highlighted the importance of partnerships, noting the team lacked that cohesion in their first two matches. “We finally found the right ones, and Perry’s calm 30 not out was crucial,” she added.
Cramp worries were a concern, with several players dealing with muscle tightness. Ellyse Perry had to sit out for a time, but she returned to finish a victorious streak. “We’re all experiencing cramps in the group, but we’ve got a couple of days to rest and recover,” Healy said.
With this win, Australia keeps its hopes alive in the Women’s World Cup, moving forward as a team that can chase big totals and rely on strong partnerships and effective bowling.
