India’s women’s cricket team used a rainy match to keep Bangladesh on the back foot. The game at Dr D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai turned into a 27‑over weather‑aided contest after repeated rain pauses, and India’s side changes paid off.
An early boost came when Radha Yadav, a left‑arm spinner who joined India’s XI for the game, picked up a tidy three‑wicket haul. She beat Bangladesh’s top scorer Sobhana Mostary, and also dismissed Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan, finishing with figures of 3‑30. Fellow spinner N. Shree Charani added another two wides with 2‑23. India’s bowlers used the damp pitch to hold the Bangladeshi batters in check.
The match was delayed for half an hour before play began. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss, chose to bowl first and led India into a 43‑over format that was later shortened to 27 overs after the second heavy rain spell. India also gave wicketkeeper‑batsman Uma Chetry his debut in place of the injured Richa Ghosh, and rested Kranti Gaud and Sneh Rana, bringing in Amanjot Kaur and Radha.
Bangladesh started cautiously, taking only one wicket in the Power‑play and losing about a third of its top order early: Rubya Haider was dismissed for 13 and the side fell to 34/1 after nine overs. The downpour then hit again, halting play for almost two hours. When the game resumed at around 8 p.m., Bangladesh were 39/2 in a 27‑over match.
India’s bowlers disciplined the innings. No Bangladeshi batters hit a boundary for more than 50 balls. The Bangladesh captain, Nigar Sultana Joty, was run out by an accurate Radha Yadav delivery after just nine runs. Sharmin Akhter and Sobhana Mostary tried to keep Bangladesh’s score alive, scoring 36 and 26 respectively, but the wickets saw the total slip to 94/4 after 22 overs.
India’s wicketkeeper–batsman Pratika Rawal suffered an ankle twist while trying to stop a boundary and had to leave the field, but the rain‑ridden match kept the pressure on Bangladesh’s side. By the end, with most wickets lost in a flurry of runs, Bangladesh could only finish 119/9.
On a wet, cut‑short day, India’s strategic changes and Radha Yadav’s spin dazzled. India’s women’s team now moves on to the next group match of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, while Bangladesh must regroup after a modest score in a rain‑affected game.
