Navi Mumbai, October 26 – Heavy rain that began at about 10 pm forced the final league game of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup between India and Bangladesh to be called off at the Dr DY Patil Stadium. The rain prevented the match from meeting the minimum overs required, so the umpires called it a wash‑out.
India had been chasing a DLS‑adjusted target of 126 runs in 27 overs. At 57 for 0 in 8.4 overs, a sudden downpour sent the teams to the dugout and halted play. With play impossible, umpires Lauren Agenbag and Sue Redfern declared the match a no‑result.
Smriti Mandhana was batting at 34 off 27 balls, while Bangladesh’s opening contributed Amanjot Kaur had 13 runs when the match was abandoned. The result gave each side one point. India finished fourth in the standings with seven points from three wins a–one no‑result, while Bangladesh ended up seventh, tied on points with Pakistan but placed higher because they had won a game.
Rain snarled the day from the afternoon. A 30‑minute delay in the toss was followed by two two‑hour pauses, cutting the planned eight‑hour match to a little over three hours.
Bangladesh were asked to bat first and struggled on the wet wickets. In their nine‑over power‑play they managed only 34 / 1. India bowled patiently, and the Indians were not threatened by boundaries for more than 50 balls. Radha Yadav, the left‑arm spinner, was the main threat, taking 3 / 30 in six overs. N Shree Charani also returned 2 / 23.
A key moment came when India’s opener Pratika Rawal slipped on the damp pitch while trying to stop a Bangladesh boundary. She twisted her ankle and had to leave the field with help from the physio. The incident added to the tension in an already difficult match.
Bangladesh’s Sharmin Akhter and Sobhana Mostary kept the score going. Mostary hit 26 runs in 21 balls, hitting four fours and a six. The duo produced a quick burst in the middle overs, but Indian bowlers, especially Yadav, slowed the run rate at crucial times.
India would have raced to the chase if not for the weather. It’s now a wash‑out for both teams, but the World Cup standings will not change dramatically. The next round of matches will resume later in the tournament, as rain is expected to clear by the weekend.
