In a dramatic comeback in Visakhapatnam, India’s women chased down a daunting South Africa target to post 251 all out in Match 10 of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup. Richa Ghosh was the star, scoring 94 from 76 balls and steering the team through a tense middle‑innings collapse.
India had found themselves in trouble at 102 for 6 when Richa entered the field. She smashed 11 fours and four sixes, adding 88 runs for the eighth wicket alongside Sneh Rana. Their partnership lifted the score to 251, a total the bowlers could defend. Richa became the highest‑scoring No. 8 in World Cup history, while Sneh’s fast cameo gave India a powerful finish.
The match started an hour late because of a brief downpour, but the outfield dried quickly. India opened strongly with Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal. The pair gave the hosts the best power‑play 55 runs in ten overs, with Mandhana hitting the first six of the match. Mandhana, however, was caught on a big shot just after the Power‑play, and Rawal was dismissed the next over.
India’s tail fell apart in the second half. Harleen Deol, Harmanpreet Kaur, Jemimah Rodrigues and Deepti Sharma were all let go quickly, taking the score from 55 all out to 102 for 6 by the 24th over. South African bowlers from miles—Ayabonga Khaka, Nadine de Klerk, Nonkululeko Mlaba and Chloe Tryon—bowled tight line and length, keeping India at 86 balls with no boundaries and bringing the run‑rate down sharply.
Richa rescued India in the 29th over with a shot off Tryon, and kept the pressure on with a series of powerful deliveries. She and Amanjot Kaur added 37 for the seventh wicket, taking the score past 150 before Kaur was dismissed for 13. Richa homered a slower ball into deep midwicket at the end of the over, and Sneh followed suit. Their eighth‑wicket partnership blossomed, adding 36 in 36 balls and bringing the score close to 200.
In the 47th over, Richa sent two quick fours and a six that knocked the score over 200. Sneh added a couple of boundaries with Mlaba and a fine‑leg shot off de Klerk to finish the innings. Richa’s 94 from 76 balls included a career‑best 19 in a single over against Khaka, while Sneh’s 33 accounted for a rapid cameo that paced the team into a winning target.
South Africa were left to chase 250 in 50 overs. The match saw India batting 259 balls, losing all ten wickets. India’s bowlers finished with a decent effort: Tryon was most economical, conceding 32 from 3 overs, while Kapp and de Klerk each took two wickets for 45 and 52 runs respectively.
India’s record at the venue was a solid 251 all out, with Richa Ghosh’s 94 and Sneh Rana’s 33 driving the score to a defendable total. The performance showcased India’s resilience and proved the team can stage comebacks even when they are behind early in an ICC Women’s ODI World Cup match.
