Indian Boxers Shine at World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool
Indian boxers are making waves at the World Boxing Championships 2025 in Liverpool! On Friday, Nupur and Jaismine Lamboria stormed into the finals, putting India on the map with their dominant performances.
In the women’s 57kg category, Jaismine Lamboria grabbed headlines by defeating Venezuela’s Omailyn Carolina Alcala Segovia with a unanimous 5:0 win. She became the first Indian boxer to reach the final in this prestigious tournament. Not far behind, Nupur in the women’s 80+kg division crushed Turkey’s Duztas Seyma 5:0, securing her spot in the gold medal bout. Fun fact: These two had clashed before in the World Boxing Cup Astana semi-finals, where Nupur also won 5:0—talk about a repeat victory!
Earlier in the day, Minakshi, who snagged silver at the World Boxing Cup Astana, delivered a sharp performance in the women’s 48kg quarterfinals. The 24-year-old from Rohtak, Haryana, used her impressive reach to outclass England’s young talent Alice Pumphrey from the opening round. Judges awarded her a clear 5:0 verdict, propelling her into the semi-finals alongside Nupur (women’s 80+kg), Jaismine Lamboria (women’s 57kg), and Pooja Rani (women’s 80kg). This means India has locked in at least a bronze medal—another podium finish for the nation!
India sent a strong 20-member team to this inaugural edition of the World Boxing Championships, organized by the new international body World Boxing. The event has already boosted excitement around Indian boxing on the global stage.
On the men’s side, it was a tough outing for 21-year-old Jadumani Singh Mandengbam in the 50kg quarterfinals. Making his debut at the world championships, he went toe-to-toe with Kazakhstan’s experienced Sanzhar Tashkenbay—a former world champion and two-time Asian champ. Jadumani fought hard but fell short with a 0:4 score.
With more bouts ahead, Indian fans are buzzing—could we see multiple medals from this Liverpool showdown? Stay tuned for updates on these rising stars in women’s boxing and Indian boxing achievements!
