Bulgaria’s Ruzhdi dominated the men’s Shot Put F55 at the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, grabbing his sixth straight gold medal with a stunning world record throw of 12.94 meters. The event unfolded at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Sunday, and Ruzhdi’s performance highlighted one of three world records set during the session.

The 34-year-old athlete, a true legend in para athletics, nailed that record-breaking distance on his final attempt, beating his own previous mark of 12.69 meters from the Paris Championships two years ago. Ruzhdi survived a severe car crash that left him paralyzed from the waist down, yet he’s claimed gold in every World Para Athletics Championships since Doha in 2015. This marks his third gold won with a world record—talk about thriving under pressure! Serbia’s Nebojsa Duric put up a strong fight with six throws over 12 meters, but Ruzhdi topped him with five efforts better than Duric’s best of 12.52 meters.

Malaysia’s Abdul Latif Romly also made history in the men’s Long Jump T20, securing his third consecutive gold with a world record leap of 7.67 meters. At 28, Romly has ruled this event, racking up five golds and one silver overall. His only World Championships loss came in Dubai back in 2019, but he’s bounced back strong, turning this record into the perfect highlight of his hat-trick.

Ukraine’s Volodymyr Ponomarenko sealed his win in the men’s Shot Put T12 early, launching a world record 17.39 meters on just his second try. That effort crushed the competition, leaving Latvia’s Emils Dzilna in second despite two solid throws over 16 meters—his best at 16.63 meters couldn’t catch up.

In the women’s Discus Throw F57, Algeria’s Nassima Saifi proved unstoppable, completing a double hat-trick of gold medals. She outclassed the field with all five valid throws soaring past 32 meters, while China’s silver medalist Tian Yuxin managed just one effort over 30 meters at 30.30.

Switzerland’s Catherine Debrunner powered to victory in the women’s 5000m T54 wheelchair race, edging out China’s defending champion Tian Yajuan and her teammate Patricia Eachus. Debrunner took the lead right after the 3km mark, thanks to her strong arm propulsion, and claimed her second 5000m gold at age 30.

These standout performances showcase the incredible talent and determination at the New Delhi 2025 World Para Athletics Championships, where athletes continue to push boundaries in para sports.
