Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat, a former chief minister of Uttarakhand, said the INDIA alliance is staying together as the Bihar Assembly elections approach. He reassured the press that any quarrels inside the Grand Alliance will be sorted out before the polls.
The comments come after reports that the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) is fielding candidates on seats where the Congress also plans nominees. The overlap has sparked visible friction between the two parties.
While the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) predicts the INDIA bloc will break apart as the election date nears, Rawat brushed off those claims. He said the group remains united and that its collective mission is to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
When questioned about a recent remark by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Maoism is shrinking, Rawat agreed the threat is serious. He said: “Maoism once grew fast, but a special operation launched during the UPA years trained local forces that helped curb its influence.” He called Modi’s statement that no previous government had acted on Maoism “unfair and historically inaccurate.”
On Defence Minister Rajnath Singh’s “Operation Sindoor” comment, Rawat added, “I agree with the need to win, but we must abandon the habit of lying.”
The upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, scheduled in two phases with results due on November 14, are a critical test for both sides. The NDA is confident it can form the next Bihar government, but parties within the INDIA alliance argue a wave of change is on the horizon.
Seat‑sharing disputes remain unresolved, and top leaders are keeping their negotiations private. The next week will see Prime Minister Modi and BJP‑led state chief ministers ramp up campaigning in Bihar, adding extra pressure to the electoral battle.
