Telangana: Heavy rain causes waterlogging in Mithila Nagar Colony in Rangareddy

Heavy rains have turned parts of Telangana into a watery mess, with severe waterlogging hitting Mithila Nagar colony in the Meerpet Municipal Corporation area of Rangareddy district. The downpours on September 26 left streets flooded and residents dealing with the chaos.

With weather experts predicting more rain over the next two days, Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy wasted no time. He directed the state administration to stay on high alert and tackle any flooding head-on. Officials from various departments now monitor flood-prone spots closely, taking steps to keep people safe.

The Chief Minister’s Office says district collectors must check out regularly flooded areas right away. They’re also moving folks from low-lying zones to relief camps as a smart precaution. To avoid risks, authorities will stop traffic on waterlogged roads and watch over causeways carefully.

The Electricity Department got clear orders too: keep power flowing without breaks, but prioritize safety by clearing any dangling wires during the storms. Schools and colleges should stay watchful even through the Dussehra holidays, and everyone in Telangana is urged to hunker down indoors when the rains hit hard.

In Hyderabad, emergency teams from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), HYDRAA, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) stand ready to jump into action.

This southwest monsoon has been extra generous to Telangana, dumping 25% more rain than usual—89 cm compared to the normal 71 cm. Hyderabad saw even more, with a whopping 51% excess at 91 cm against the typical 60 cm. But the city’s urban sprawl is making things worse through the urban heat island effect. With daytime temps hovering between 28 and 32°C, that trapped heat cranks up the rainfall intensity, leading to more intense urban flooding in Hyderabad.

Just a couple of weeks ago, on September 15, spots like Amberpet got slammed with 15 cm of rain, while Charminar, Golconda, and Begumpet each saw 10 cm. Those heavy showers sparked major disruptions across the city, turning daily life upside down.
