Rohit Sharma presented 22‑year‑old all‑rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy with his ODI cap in Perth, calling him a future “all‑format great.” The former Indian captain, known for his patience and skill, said Reddy’s attitude and game style put him on a long path with India. “Cap 260, Nitish Reddy, welcome to the club,” Rohit said in a short video released by the BCCI. “You’ve started your career strong and with this attitude you’ll go far. We’ll all be behind you.”

The 22‑year‑old made his first ODI for India in a rain‑shortened match against Australia. In the opener, India batted first but were restricted to 136‑9 in 26 overs. Australia chased the 131‑run target, taking seven wickets and forcing the match under the DLS method. The game gave Australia an early 1‑0 lead in the three‑match series.

India’s debutant didn’t have a memorable start, but Sharma’s words give Reddy a boost. The young player is already on the radar of fans as a potential long‑term asset for India across all formats. The series continues in Perth, with the Men in Blue looking to bounce back from this early setback.
