Uttarakhand Cloudburst: CM Pushkar Singh Dhami Monitors Rescue Ops as 10 Go Missing in Chamoli
In a heartbreaking turn of events, heavy rains triggered a cloudburst in Chamoli district’s Nanda Nagar area, leaving 10 people missing and sparking urgent rescue efforts. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami shared his deep concern on Thursday, saying he’s keeping a close eye on the situation.
The disaster struck hard in Kuntari Lagafali and Dhurma villages, where massive debris from the cloudburst swept away homes and blocked paths. "We’ve received tragic news of damage to houses in the Nandan Nagar Ghat area due to heavy downpours," Dhami posted on X. "Local teams, SDRF, and police rushed to the scene right away and are working on relief and rescue. I’m staying in touch with the administration and monitoring everything personally. Praying for everyone’s safety."
Among the missing from Kuntari Lagafali are Kunwar Singh (42), his wife Kanta Devi (38), and their young sons Vikas and Vishal (both 10). The list also includes Deveshwari Devi (65), Bhaga Devi (65), Jagdamba Prasad (70), and Narendra Singh (40). In Dhurma village, Guman Singh (75) and Mamta Devi (38) remain unaccounted for.
Rescue teams from SDRF, NDRF, and the Public Works Department jumped into action, using JCB machines and other gear to clear the debris. In a glimmer of hope, two people were rescued alive from the rubble. A medical team with three ambulances arrived quickly to help the injured.
But the going is tough—non-stop rain and rugged terrain are making it hard for the teams to move around. Locals say several folks might still be trapped in their homes after the cloudburst hit.
The weather office warns of more heavy rainfall in Chamoli over the next few days, raising fears of landslides. Authorities are pushing hard to find the missing amid these challenges, focusing on Uttarakhand cloudburst updates and Chamoli disaster relief. Stay tuned for more on this developing story.
