Mysuru – The BJP has today announced a series of events that will take place across Karnataka from November 26 to December 6, aimed at celebrating Constitution Day and paying tribute to Dr B. R. Ambedkar.

At a press briefing held in the city, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the opposition leader in the state Legislative Council, said the programme schedule will be executed in line with instructions from the party president. He noted that Constitution Day is observed on November 26, a tradition that Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced to honour the Constitution and salute Dr B. R. Ambedkar.

Modi has criticised the Congress for imposing the Emergency during Indira Gandhi’s tenure and now that the party is staging “Save the Constitution” protests. Narayanaswamy echoed this sentiment, claiming that the Congress’s defeat of Ambedkar in his first election left the former path-breaking leader profoundly hurt. He added, “At that time, deeply hurt, Ambedkar had said that the Congress was like a burning house with no future and no future for anyone who entered it.”

The BJP leader went on to say that Ambedkar’s warning is “coming true,” adding that the Congress has become a “sinking ship.” He further opined that even the INDIA bloc does not desire Congress leadership, as the party has lost the stature of a national party.

Narayanaswamy highlighted that the BJP has converted Ambedkar’s five pivotal sites into national memorials, and maintains that it was the party—not the Congress—that initiated the observance of Constitution Day and the celebration of Ambedkar’s legacy.

He suggested that the Congress office, for many years, avoided displaying Ambedkar’s photograph, but only recently started doing so in an attempt to “protect” its Dalit vote bank. The opposition leader took jabs at the grand old party, pointing out that while Bharat Ratna was conferred on J.L. Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, it “failed” to honour others. He added in sharp tone, “Had Congress remained in power, they would have given the Bharat Ratna to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi as well.”
