Gunfight Erupts in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam District
A fierce gunfight broke out on Monday between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. This encounter highlights the ongoing efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
Officials revealed that joint teams of security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the Gudar forest area after receiving tips about terrorists hiding there. As the forces closed in, the militants opened fire, sparking the intense exchange. Reports indicate that firing continued in the area as the latest updates came in.
Security forces have ramped up aggressive anti-terrorist operations across Jammu and Kashmir. These operations target not just the armed terrorists but also their over ground workers (OGWs) and sympathisers who help sustain the terror network. Experts believe that dismantling the entire terror ecosystem in the Union Territory requires going beyond eliminating gunmen—it means cracking down on everyone supporting terrorism.
Since the suspension of Operation Sindoor, terrorists have tried to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir from the Pakistani side of the Line of Control (LoC). The LoC stretches 740 km and remains heavily guarded by the Indian Army. On top of that, the nearly 240-km International Border in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua districts falls under the watch of the Border Security Force (BSF).
Terror outfits, backed by Pakistan, often use drones along the International Border to drop weapons, drugs, and cash into Indian territory for militants. To counter this, the BSF deploys advanced anti-drone technology, stopping terror handlers in Pakistan from fueling violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
Security agencies also keep a close eye on drug smugglers and peddlers. They suspect that money from drug smuggling and hawala rackets funds terrorist activities. Investigations often trace these networks back to Pakistan, where terror operatives’ handlers operate from.
