Bengaluru:
The Special Court for MLAs and MPs will deliver its decision on December 18 concerning the petition that contests the clean chit the Karnataka Lokayukta gave to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and others over the MUDA scandal.
The issue has become especially significant amid the internal power struggle within the state’s Congress leadership.
During Thursday’s hearing, the Special Judge for People’s Representatives explained that the court will rule on December 18 regarding the “B final” closure report submitted by the investigating officer.
Activist Snehamayi Krishna has filed an appeal on the matter, and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also lodged a petition with the court.
The “MUDA case” involves an alleged illegal land allotment scam that implicates MUDA and the chief minister’s family.
Reports allege that the chief minister’s wife, Parvathi, was allocated 14 compensatory plots in a high‑end area in return for roughly 3.16 acres of land that MUDA acquired, supposedly through political influence.
Several investigations, including those by Lokayukta Police and the Enforcement Directorate, are underway; court rulings have already quashed ED proceedings against the chief minister’s wife and declared an ED search unlawful.
The Karnataka Lokayukta Police questioned CM Siddaramaiah on November 6, 2024, and later registered an FIR after a local court, following the Karnataka High Court’s validation of the governor’s sanction for probing the MUDA allegations.
On September 27, 2024, the Mysuru division of the Karnataka Lokayukta Police filed an FIR charging CM Siddaramaiah and others with corruption, cheating, and forgery, based on a private complaint sent to the agency by a special court for elected representatives on September 25, 2024.
Snehamayi Krishna has also requested a CBI investigation, and the Karnataka High Court is currently reviewing the case.
CM Siddaramaiah is listed as accused number one, with his wife Parvathi as the second accused.
