EPS Fires Back at Stalin’s ‘Childish’ Jabs Over Delhi Meet with Amit Shah
In Chennai, AIADMK general secretary and Tamil Nadu’s Leader of Opposition, Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), slammed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Thursday. EPS called Stalin’s comments on his recent Delhi trip "childish" after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Speaking to reporters, EPS accused his rivals of spreading false claims and hyped-up stories to tarnish his image. "They’re just trying to drag my name through the mud with baseless attacks," he said.
EPS shared insights from his statewide campaign across 153 constituencies. He claimed to feel a wave of public frustration against the DMK government. "From all the protests I’ve seen, people are fed up and want this anti-people regime out. AIADMK will bounce back strong in the next Tamil Nadu Assembly elections," he confidently predicted.
Turning to the buzz around his Delhi visit, EPS cleared the air. He explained that he went with senior AIADMK leaders and state MPs. First, he met Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar at his residence in the morning. Later that night, he visited Amit Shah in an official government car. "As I got out, I just wiped my face—nothing more. But someone captured that split second on video and blew it into a big political drama. It’s embarrassing and hurtful," EPS said.
He outright denied hiding his face during the meeting. "Why would I cover up when meeting Amit Shah? Everything was out in the open. The only one who ever sneaked into AIADMK wearing a mask was T.T.V. Dhinakaran," he shot back, referencing a past rival.
EPS revealed that Amit Shah complimented his rise in politics and assured no BJP meddling in AIADMK’s internal affairs. This comes amid ongoing AIADMK-BJP alliance talks in Tamil Nadu politics.
EPS didn’t hold back on Stalin’s flip-flops either. "Stalin waved black flags at PM Modi when he was in opposition. Now he’s waving white flags. He branded Senthil Balaji as corrupt before, but look—he made him a minister anyway. Stalin once accused Balaji and his brother of looting Karur, and now he acts like they’re spotless," EPS pointed out, highlighting what he sees as double standards in DMK leadership.
On the hot-button NEET issue, EPS mocked Stalin for empty promises. "He rode to power by lying about scrapping NEET. Even his son Udhayanidhi’s big ‘secret’ on NEET has disappeared into thin air," he quipped.
EPS also highlighted his key requests during the Delhi meeting. He urged Amit Shah to award the Bharat Ratna to freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar, a revered figure in Tamil Nadu history. Wrapping up, EPS took a dig at Stalin’s travel habits. "AIADMK leaders travel with the people in buses—we don’t blow thousands of crores on fancy trips. Where does the Chief Minister jet off to abroad? The public has a right to know about Tamil Nadu government spending."
This exchange ramps up the rivalry between AIADMK and DMK ahead of future elections, with EPS positioning his party as the people’s choice against what he calls governance failures.
