The Rajasthan government has announced a big plan to brighten up cities and towns across the state. Before the upcoming festive season, they are set to install 2 lakh LED street lights – that’s double the original target of 1 lakh! This new initiative aims to make streets safer, save energy, and improve traffic flow in urban areas.
Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma emphasized that the goal is to light up every road, neighborhood, and market in Rajasthan. “This is more than just adding lights; it’s about building a safer and more modern Rajasthan,” he said. The government wants to start installing these LED lights before Diwali so that streets shine brightly during the celebrations.
The project will replace old, weak street lights in 312 urban areas with bright, energy-efficient LEDs. This will not only improve the look of the cities but also boost safety, making citizens feel more secure at night. Officials say these new lights will help save electricity, reduce accidents, and create a safer environment after dark.
The Urban Development Department has been instructed to prepare an action plan and begin work immediately. The project is part of the ‘Shahar Chalo Abhiyan,’ which is led by the Department of Autonomous Governance. From September 15 to October 2, teams will work across the state to install new street lights and fix any broken ones.
To keep citizens informed and involved, the government has launched a helpline number – 181 – where people can send complaints or suggestions about street lights, water supply, and roads.
This move aims to give Rajasthan’s cities a fresh new look while tackling safety concerns and reducing energy use. Recently, the Rajasthan cabinet also approved the PM Surya Ghar scheme, which offers free electricity for up to 150 units to over 1 crore consumers, further improving public services in the state.
