Patna streets saw a new clash of slogans as posters calling RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav “Bihar ka Nayak” went up just two days after he was named the Mahagathbandhan’s chief‑ministerial candidate. The BJP, meanwhile, fired back with a sharp attack, linking the young leader and his family to a string of scams and corruption cases.
BJP deputy chief‑minister Samrat Choudhary mocked the Yadav legacy in an interview. “People ask how someone from a family full of villains can be a hero,” he said. He added that Lalu Prasad Yadav, Tejashwi’s father, is “Bihar’s Gabbar Singh” and accused him of looting state funds while in office and of a land‑for‑job scam as railway minister. “Tejashwi should spill the secret of turning into a crorepati in just one and a half years—everyone wants to know,” he quipped.
BJP state chief Dilip Jaiswal piled on the heat. He told reporters the opposition was using gimmicks because they had no real issues to raise. “He’s not a hero; he’s a villain,” Jaiswal said, joking that once he drops the prefix “Nayak” a new song will play. He warned supporters that the RJD’s campaign was nothing more than illusion.
In the Rajya Sabha, BJP MP Bhim Singh Chandravanshi Zargoned the posters in a blunt tone. “If Tejashwi wants to blow his own trumpet, that’s his choice and his money,” he said. “But can you call the son of a villain a hero? Bihar voters know their dad Lalu’s record and won’t be duped again.”
National spokesperson Ajay Alok weighed in from Delhi. He pointed to Bihar’s history of transformative leaders—Jai Prakash Narayan and Karpoori Thakur—and warned that “the son of a corrupt family who hasn’t even passed class nine should not be hailed as ‘Bihar ka Nayak.’” He urged voters to hold the RJD to account for its lack of tangible achievements.
As the 2024 Bihar assembly elections approach, the clash of slogans and accusations over Tejashwi Yadav’s legacy set the stage for a heated campaign. The BJP’s counter‑campaign focuses on corruption charges, while the RJD pushes a new hero narrative. The coming weeks will test which narrative resonates most with Patna’s voters.
