Hyderabad: Telangana’s Chief Minister, A. Revanth Reddy, inspected the ongoing construction at the tribal shrine of Sammakka‑Sarakka in Medaram on Monday, preparing for the big “Medaram jatra” that’s set to take place next month.

During a briefing with ministers and relevant officials, he emphasized that every aspect of the Medaram upgrade must meet stringent quality standards. Engineers and other staff were told to perform regular on‑site checks and personally monitor the progress.

C‑M Reddy warned that any official found shirking their responsibilities would face immediate and severe consequences.

He outlined detailed directives covering roadworks, stone masonry, new electrical poles, traffic flow for devotees around the sacred platforms (Gaddelu) and designated waiting areas.

While reviewing the PowerPoint on the project’s status, the CM highlighted several precautionary measures. He stressed that coordination among the Roads and Buildings Department (R&B), Electricity Department, Endowment, Forest Department, and archaeologist Sthapathi Shivanagi Reddy is essential for speedy completion.

Reddy also insisted on giving tribal culture, traditions, and customs the priority they deserve during Medaram’s development. He set a clear deadline for the completion of all tasks.

Attended by Endowment Minister Konda Surekha, Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, State Scheduled Caste Development and Tribal Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman Kumar, CM advisor Vem Narender Reddy, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, and other officials.

The temple’s enhancement is part of a comprehensive master plan. Reddy recently returned to the site to finalize the layout.

The plan targets the sacred precincts that house the platforms of Sammakka, Saralamma, Pagididdaraju, and Govindaraju, making it easier for lakhs of worshippers to pray.

Construction work is on schedule ahead of the Sammakka‑Sarakka Jatara, which is slated to begin on January 28, 2026.

Hundreds of thousands of devotees from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and other states gather for this tribal fair.

The Chief Minister has already requested the Central government to recognize the Medaram Jatara as a national festival and to earmark sufficient funds for a grand celebration.

He also queried why the Centre has not provided support for the country’s largest tribal festival in Mulugu district, despite allocating money for the Kumbh Mela.
