Guwahati, Dec 7 – New Jalpaiguri in West Bengal is being reshaped into a top‑tier railway hub, complete with modern comforts, cutting‑edge platforms, better passenger services, and streamlined circulation spaces, officials said on Sunday.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), noted that the General Manager, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, conducted a thorough inspection of the Malda–New Jalpaiguri corridor. The review covered everything from tracks and signals to stations, the locomotive shed and other critical infrastructure.
During the visit, the GM toured the ongoing station upgrade at New Jalpaiguri (NJP) and observed how the station is evolving into a world‑class terminal.
“The NJP is being transformed into a world class station and international terminus, offering modern facilities, state‑of‑the‑art platforms, enhanced passenger amenities and improved circulation areas,” the CPRO said.
He also examined other redevelopment projects under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, which aims to deliver an efficient, future‑ready travel hub that provides an outstanding experience for all passengers.
Shrivastava went on to inspect the Malda Town locomotive shed in detail, assessing maintenance practices, safety standards, and overall operational readiness. He praised the staff for their diligent work in ensuring reliable and safe locomotive operations, underscoring the strong safety culture that pervades the zone.
A comprehensive walk‑through from Malda Town to New Jalpaiguri provided the GM with a chance to evaluate track conditions, signalling assets, passenger facilities, and the readiness of the route’s infrastructure. He highlighted the need to uphold safety protocols and modern operating procedures to guarantee smooth and secure train services.
While visiting, Shrivastava also reviewed progress at Samsi and Dalkhola under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. At Samsi, he examined level‑crossing gates to verify their safe and efficient functioning. At Dalkhola, he looked over redevelopment works designed to modernise station facilities, improve passenger flow, and boost overall travel comfort.
He lauded the railway personnel for their dedication and professionalism in maintaining the highest safety and operational standards.
Shrivastava reaffirmed NFR’s commitment to continual infrastructure development, technological upgrades, and the delivery of safe, reliable, passenger‑friendly services throughout the zone.
The GM was accompanied by senior officials from NFR headquarters in Maligaon, near Guwahati, as well as divisional officers. NFR serves the northeastern states and covers seven districts in West Bengal and five districts in Bihar.
