The festival, held on the 11th lunar day of the bright fortnight in the month of Margashirsha, reminds participants of Lord Krishna’s eternal lessons to Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.
In Port of Spain, the Indian High Commission hosted a spirited evening at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Cooperation auditorium. Devotees gathered for recitations, prayers, and a tour of Gita‑inspired art. Senior officials from the Trinidad and Tobago government—including Speaker Jagdeo Singh and Senator Pundit Prakash Persad—joined the event, stressing how Gita’s ideas of duty and righteousness remain relevant today. The High Commission shared their comments on X, calling the dignitaries’ words “wisdom, encouragement, and cultural appreciation” that deepened the celebration.
Across the globe, the 10th International Gita Mahotsav prepares for its main event in Kurukshetra, India. In China, the Indian Consul General in Shanghai, Pratik Mathur, honored Wang Zhicheng, a noted Vedanta and Yoga scholar from Zhejiang University. Wang’s Chinese translation of the Bhagavad Gita, first published in 2015, has now seen 17 reprints, and the 2025 edition is drawing strong interest among Chinese readers, underscoring global support for Indian culture.
In Mozambique, the Indian High Commission celebrated in early Sunday at Anand Ashram in Salamanga, near Maputo. The program featured yoga, prayers, poetry, songs, a quiz, and finished with a traditional Prasadi lunch. Meanwhile, the Embassy of India in Switzerland organized an event showcasing India’s rich heritage and the universal message of the Gita. GitaProductions led soulful performances of dance and drama, bringing the sacred text’s teachings to life.
These international gatherings, from Trinidad and Tobago to China, Mozambique and Switzerland, demonstrate how the Bhagavad Gita continues to inspire people worldwide and sets the stage for the main Gita Mahotsav in Kurukshetra this year.
