Is CM face in Congress sold for Rs 500 crore?, questions Punjab AAP

Baltej Pannu, the Punjab AAP general secretary, fired a harsh critique at the Congress on Sunday after Navjot Kaur Sidhu delivered a striking statement during her meeting with the state governor.
He said the remarks revealed the “ugly truth” about how the Congress operates: how leaders are chosen, and how the state’s interests are sidelined in favour of personal ambition and money deals.

According to Pannu, Navjot Kaur Sidhu – the wife of Congress stalwart Navjot Sidhu – claimed that her husband would return to Punjab politics only if the party first named him its chief‑ministerial candidate, and that the Sidhu family supposedly held Rs 500 crore, implying that becoming CM in the Congress requires a Rs 500 crore transaction.

Calling these assertions “deeply disturbing,” Pannu questioned whether any Congress leader truly sells the CM title for Rs 500 crore. “If Sidhu says they don’t have Rs 500 crore, then who actually pays this amount? Where does the money go? To the state unit president? To the high command? To Rahul Gandhi or Kharge? The citizens of Punjab deserve answers,” he said.

Pannu reminded the public that Navjot Singh Sidhu has served as Punjab Congress president, MP, MLA, and cabinet minister. He asked if these positions were ever bought, if Sidhu became president by paying a reduced sum, and how many crores one needs to secure a deputy CM or ministerial berth within the party.

Criticising Sidhu’s conditional politics, Pannu added that it’s shocking that the Sidhus claim Punjab will experience its “golden days” only if Sidhu is named the party’s face for CM. “If Congress refuses to announce him, the state could suffer; that’s the message. Is Punjab merely a bargaining chip for Navjot Sidhu?” he mused.

He mocked Sidhu’s theatrical history—from flashy press conferences to the ill‑fated “Jittega Punjab” channel—and wondered whether Sidhu actually holds a magic formula for Punjab’s resurgence, given that he never delivered on it while serving as minister or party president.

The AAP chief demanded the Congress immediately clarify: “Does becoming CM require Rs 500 crore? Has the party collected this money from the six to seven CM aspirants currently roaming the state?”
