Kyiv, Nov 26 ( LatestNewsX ) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that the peace proposal drafted jointly by Ukraine and the United States in Geneva could be expanded into more substantive, “deeper agreements.”
In a speech delivered on Tuesday, Zelensky explained that he had spoken with Ukraine’s diplomatic team about the plan. “The principles in this document can be developed into deeper agreements. And it is in our shared interest that security is real,” he told the audience.
The president also expressed hope that the United States, together with President Donald Trump, would keep the partnership active, according to Xinhua.
Earlier that day, Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, said that Zelensky is keen to set up a meeting with Trump to lock in a joint deal on how to end the Ukraine conflict, Interfax‑Ukraine reported.
Yermak added that, after finding a common ground on most issues of the U.S. peace draft, Ukrainian and American negotiators had reached a broad agreement. The final document, however, differs significantly from the initial 28‑point U.S. proposal. Zelensky intends to discuss the territorial matters directly with Trump.
Sunday, representatives from the U.S., Ukraine and several European states convened in Geneva, where the White House drove for consensus on the 28‑point framework.
After talks between Ukrainian officials and national‑security advisers from Britain, France and Germany, the Ukrainian delegation held bilateral sessions with U.S. representatives.
Sources say Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff and Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll were on the U.S. side, with Andriy Yermak heading the Ukrainian delegation.
A joint statement released by the White House on Sunday night declared that the Geneva discussions between U.S. and Ukrainian officials made “meaningful progress toward aligning positions.”
