Heroic construction workers rescue family from burning home, save trapped boy using trampoline

Construction Workers Turn Heroes in Iowa House Fire Rescue

Imagine driving by a house engulfed in flames, hearing screams inside, and not thinking twice before running in to save lives. That’s exactly what three construction workers did in a small Iowa town, earning them praise as everyday heroes.

Last Monday around 12:30 p.m., John Lewis, Gabe Record, and Damian Pond from Leick Construction in Glenwood were working nearby. Suddenly, a residential home burst into flames. Without hesitation, the trio dashed into the burning building, ignoring the thick smoke and fire pouring from the windows.

They followed the desperate cries and quickly pulled out a mother, her grandmother, and a 4-year-old girl to safety. But the danger wasn’t over—a teenage boy remained trapped on the second floor as the blaze intensified.

In the chaos, an explosion rocked the house behind them. Record later discovered it had burned his back, while Pond’s face got charred on one side. Lewis even said his hat melted right onto his head from the heat. Despite the pain, they pushed on.

Spotting a trampoline nearby, the quick-thinking workers dragged it under the boy’s window. “We scooted it over to the window. It was black smoke everywhere, but we got him down,” Lewis shared with First Alert 6. The teen jumped out, landed on the trampoline, and the men rushed him away from the building. Everyone was safe.

The three men ended up in the hospital for burn treatments, describing the whole ordeal as a “blur.” But they downplayed their bravery. “I just did what any normal person would do,” Record told reporters. Lewis added, “When you hear a child in harm’s way, you’ll do what you got to do.”

The Glenwood Fire Department plans to honor these Iowa construction heroes for their life-saving actions in the house fire rescue. The community has rallied too, holding a donation drive for the displaced family. They’ve collected blankets, toys for the little girl, and more to help them rebuild.

Stories like this show how ordinary people can make extraordinary differences in house fire emergencies. If you’re in Iowa or searching for inspiring rescue tales, this Glenwood incident is one to remember.
