In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari brushed off claims of a growing internal rift in his party’s state unit on Saturday. He called the allegations a fake story pushed by the ruling BJP to make the opposition look weaker.
Instead, Patwari turned the tables, accusing top BJP leaders in the state of trying to shake up Chief Minister Mohan Yadav’s government. He pointed to rising unrest among BJP bigwigs, where one leader after another is airing complaints against Yadav.
“Shivraj Singh Chouhan, now a Union Minister, is pulling out all the stops to replace Mohan Yadav as chief minister,” Patwari claimed. He added that Kailash Vijayvargiya and other senior ministers have teamed up against the CM. Yet, Patwari noted, the BJP keeps questioning Congress’s own unity.
Patwari made these remarks during a Congress event in Rajgarh, the home district of former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh. The gathering was part of the party’s ongoing “vote theft” campaign, drawing a big crowd of workers and supporters.
Speaking to the enthusiastic group, Patwari heaped praise on Digvijaya Singh for his 45 years of dedicated service that has strengthened the Congress in Madhya Pradesh. He also highlighted young leaders like Raghogarh MLA Jaivardhan Singh, calling him a “charming” face of the party.
Patwari took a jab at the BJP’s hypocrisy, saying, “If Jitu Patwari, Umang Singhar, Jaivardhan Singh, or any other Congress members just sit together, the BJP starts doubting our party’s organization-building efforts.”
His comments seemed to nod at a recent controversy. Jaivardhan Singh, Digvijaya’s son and a former minister, was named district president of Guna—the Lok Sabha seat held by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The BJP slammed the move as a plot to undermine Scindia. But Jaivardhan quickly hit back, joining Patwari in a joint press conference to clear the air.
As Madhya Pradesh politics heats up ahead of future elections, these back-and-forth accusations highlight the ongoing tussle between Congress and BJP over internal unity and leadership battles.
