Shahid Afridi calls for Mohsin Naqvi to leave one post — PCB or Federal Ministry

Mumbai, Sep 30 – Pressure is mounting on Mohsin Naqvi after that awkward Asia Cup moment where he grabbed the trophy and walked off without handing it to the winning Indian team. Now, the PCB Chairman and Pakistan’s Interior Minister must pick one role, as critics say he’s struggling to juggle both.

Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi has led the charge, calling on Naqvi to drop one job right away. This comes hot on the heels of Pakistan’s runner-up finish in the Asia Cup, where they lost to India three times. Fans and experts are slamming the team’s weak batting and the Pakistan Cricket Board’s shaky strategy.

Afridi, never one to hold back, told Telecom Asia Sport that Naqvi’s two big gigs – running the PCB and serving as Interior Minister – demand full focus. “PCB is totally different from the interior ministry, so it must be kept separate,” Afridi said. He urged a quick decision: “Pakistan cricket needs special attention and time.”

Adding to the mix, Naqvi also leads the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) since India’s Jay Shah shifted to the ICC. But Afridi isn’t impressed with Naqvi’s team. “He cannot rely totally on advisers. These advisers are taking him nowhere, and he himself says that he doesn’t know much about cricket,” Afridi pointed out. Instead, Naqvi should bring in sharp experts who truly get the game.

Afridi has pushed this idea before, even chatting with Pakistan’s powerful army chief to nudge Naqvi toward focusing on just one role. With the Asia Cup drama still fresh, all eyes are on what Naqvi does next for Pakistan cricket.
