UNICEF warns of endless cycle of crisis facing children in Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s children are caught in a tough spot, facing endless crises that put their lives and futures at risk, according to UNICEF. The United Nations Children’s Fund warns that getting quality education, healthcare, clean water, and protection is like a lifeline for these kids in the war-torn country.

In a recent statement, UNICEF highlighted how support from the Embassy of Japan has made a real difference, helping deliver vital services to Afghan children who need it most. As international aid groups keep pointing out, no one suffers more from Afghanistan’s ongoing humanitarian crisis than its children. Years of conflict, poverty, and strict restrictions have stripped away their basic rights and chances for a better tomorrow.

UNICEF is calling on the world to step up now, making sure these kids don’t get left behind without the urgent help they desperately need.

This comes amid fresh challenges for Afghan families. Just a couple of days ago, on September 15, thousands of Afghan refugees deported from Pakistan shared their heartbreaking stories of hardship, as reported by Tolo News. These sudden expulsions have left them struggling to survive back home.

Take Bibi Shams, one of the returnees. She opened up about her family’s woes during this forced move. “We need land to build homes, and my children are hungry. We need help. Winter is coming, and we are in need of aid,” she said.

Another returnee, Dua, echoed the same worries about the lack of support. “There has been some aid, but it’s not enough. Among us are refugees who have neither homes nor shelter. They need to be cared for, and all their needs addressed,” she added.

Arafat Jamal, head of UNHCR in Afghanistan, revealed that nearly 100,000 Afghans were deported from Pakistan in the first week of September alone. With winter approaching, the pressure on Afghanistan’s humanitarian crisis is only growing, underscoring the urgent need for more global aid for Afghan refugees and children.
