In Bhopal, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav urged the opposition to step up and offer constructive input after the tragic deaths of children from Chhindwara and Betul. The CM said that both government officials and public representatives must share responsibility for better service delivery. He added that the administration is working on tighter coordination between elected leaders and district staff, including police.
During the Collectors Commissioners Conference, Yadav noted that when children lose their lives, media and opposition questions become crucial. “The public must get clearer answers,” he said.
Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla traveled to Nagpur to visit the families of the deceased. Shukla revealed that five children remain in critical condition while 20 children have died from kidney infections linked to a contaminated cough syrup. The children came from Chhindwara (17), Betul (2) and Pandhurna (1). Two kids are in AIIMS, two in a government hospital, and one in a private Nagpur hospital, each receiving intensive care.
Shukla said a police team from Chhindwara is already heading to Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu, to arrest the owner of the company that markets Coldrif cough syrup, the suspected source of the contamination.
Congress leaders have already criticized the state government for the children’s deaths, calling for action against senior officials and the Health Minister. The opposition insists that stronger oversight and accountability are needed to prevent future tragedies.
