With decline in water levels, relief works accelerated, says Punjab govt

Punjab Speeds Up Flood Relief as Water Levels Drop

In Chandigarh, the Punjab government is ramping up its flood relief and reconstruction work as rainfall eases and water levels fall. This is helping families hit by the recent floods get back to their normal lives step by step.

Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains shared good news from the flood-affected areas in Anandpur Sahib. He said full road connectivity, electricity, and water supply are now back in the villages. People in Singhpur-Plassi have started returning home from relief camps, bringing some relief after the chaos.

Bains added that teams are working hard to reconnect isolated spots like Harsa Bela, Patti Dulchi, and Bela Shiv Singh. Plus, the old wooden bridge at Bela Dhyani will soon get a sturdy motorable one to make travel easier.

Health efforts are in full swing too. Fumigation and medicine spraying are done, while special vaccination drives by health and animal husbandry teams continue. They’ve already handed out fodder from 10 truckloads to help farmers and livestock.

Revenue officials are busy with a special crop loss survey, known as girdawari. Once that’s complete, the government will disburse compensation to those who lost their harvests in the Punjab floods.

In the Bhoa constituency, Cabinet Ministers Balbir Singh and Lal Chand Kataruchak stepped in to help. They gave Rs 51,000 each to 12 families in villages like Baknour, Pamma, Ambi Khattkaran, Kolian Adda, and Anyal. During their visit, the ministers chatted with locals, heard their worries, and promised solid support from the government.

Near the Ghaggar river, Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal checked on the situation in nearby villages. He praised how stronger river embankments held up, protecting towns from worse damage even when water stayed high for days. The government and district teams are on high alert, ready with sandbags or quick fixes anywhere needed. Officials stand guard every kilometer along the Ghaggar embankments to tackle any problems fast.

In Jalandhar, Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat held a key meeting at the District Administrative Complex. He urged revenue officers to double-check house damage claims from the rains and floods. No family should miss out on compensation, he stressed. Patwaris are now doing door-to-door checks, and Bhagat made it clear: the Punjab government has the back of every affected family in this tough time.
