CM Rekha Gupta inaugurates Atal Canteens in Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh, Pitampura

New Delhi, Dec 27 – Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta opened two new Atal Canteens this Saturday, first at Shalimar Bagh near Kela Godam Road and later at GP Block in Seva Basti, Pitampura. The canteens will serve nutritious, wholesome meals to low‑income residents at a nominal price of just Rs 5 a plate, according to a government statement.

During the Pitampura launch, CM Gupta shared a heartfelt moment with the guests, stepping up to serve food to a group of elderly women in attendance. The gesture, which she said reaffirmed her belief that the scheme is moving in the right direction, was met with warmth and gratitude from the community.

She emphasized that Delhi’s administration remains “fully committed to the holistic development of every area of the capital.” The government continues to expand basic facilities to make life easier for families, to dignify workers, and to build trust among all citizens. The CM also mentioned that several social organisations have shown interest in the Atal Canteen program and said the government will soon launch a special plan to involve them, ensuring that no person in need is left hungry.

The inauguration was attended by MP Praveen Khandelwal, Municipal Councillor Anita Jain, and numerous local dignitaries and beneficiaries. CM Gupta highlighted that the initiative draws inspiration from former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision of extending development benefits to the final link in society’s chain.

She added that the canteens are more than just food outlets—they’re a compassionate government effort to support the hard‑working citizens who build and run the city. “With the cooperation of social organisations, we can bring affordable, nutritious meals to an even larger number of people,” she remarked.

The Shalimar Bagh canteen also boasts high‑quality cuisine, and CM Gupta praised its nutritional value after sampling it. In addition to food, the Pitampura site will be transformed into a comprehensive public‑service hub, featuring an Ayushman Arogya Mandir, clean toilet facilities, and an RO plant for safe drinking water.
