Asian Youth Para Games: Dubai 2025 to host biggest-ever event with 1,500 athletes from 35 nations

Dubai is poised to return to the spotlight as the host city for the Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) for a second time, opening its doors to about 1,500 young para athletes representing 35 countries—an unprecedented turnout for the event. After a successful 2017 edition, the 2025 Games will bring 11 sports to life across eight top‑notch venues from December 10 to 13, further establishing Dubai as a cornerstone of para‑sport prestige worldwide.

The Organising Committee has set December 10 as the opening day, with the ceremony scheduled to take place at the Dubai Club for People of Determination Stadium. All arrangements are now finalised to ensure a flawless continental competition, under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE National Olympic Committee and Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council.

Competitors will battle in para athletics, para swimming, boccia, para powerlifting, para table tennis, para archery, goalball, para badminton, wheelchair basketball, para taekwondo, and the debut of para armwrestling in the Asian Youth Para Games lineup.

Among the delegations, Iran stands out as the largest contingent with 195 athletes, the same tally that earned them the top spot at the 2021 edition in Bahrain. Uzbekistan (124 athletes), Thailand (122), and India (122) round out the top three national teams, as announced by the Asian Paralympic Committee. The host country, the UAE, will field 55 athletes, showcasing the country’s growth in para‑sport and the dedication of regional bodies such as the Asian Paralympic Committee and the Dubai Club for People of Determination to foster inclusion.

The announcement was made during a press conference held on Thursday at the Dubai Sports Council, where over 40 sponsors and partners were officially revealed. Attendees included Saeed Hareb, Secretary General of the Dubai Sports Council; Thani Juma Berregad, Chairman of the Organising Committee; Majid Rashed, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee; and representatives from partner organisations.

Speaking at the event, Saeed Hareb applauded the Organising Committee and the sponsors, stressing that Dubai’s second hosting of this major international competition dovetails with the UAE’s 54th National Day celebrations. He noted that the event underscores the nation’s remarkable organisational capacity, the global community’s confidence in the country, and the talents of its citizens, which continue to shine across all sporting and non‑sporting arenas.
