Winter coat saves NYC tourist from serious stab injury in wild Times Square attack

During the bustling holiday rush in Times Square on Monday, two visitors were the victims of an attack. One of the tourists managed to avoid serious injury thanks to a thick winter coat, according to police. Officers say the assailant was 43‑year‑old Robert Kerri, who confronted the pair as they waited for a tour bus near the corner of 42nd Street and 8th Avenue around 3:50 p.m. A 47‑year‑old man was stabbed once in the torso—a knife wound that his jacket helped shield him from, even in the bone‑chilling weather. A 44‑year‑old woman received a slap across the face, which caused her to lose balance and hit the ground. Both sustained only minor injuries and declined medical care, police reported, and it is not clear whether the two had any prior connection. Kerri was taken into custody shortly after and is now charged with two counts of assault and two counts of harassment.
