Mumbai – On Tuesday, the 8th of December, actor Sunny Deol shared his heartfelt tribute to his late father, Dharmendra, who would have turned 90 on this very day. He posted on social media: “Today is my father’s birthday. Papa is always with me, inside me love you papa. Miss you. (sic).” Alongside the message, Sunny uploaded a nostalgic clip of his father enjoying the calm scenery of the mountains, adding in a voice‑over, “I am really enjoying my son, it’s lovely.”
Dharmendra had been hospitalized at Breach Candy Hospital after reporting shortness of breath. After receiving treatment, he was released on November 12 and continued his recovery at home. He passed away soon after, and his last rites were carried out at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai, where numerous Bollywood stars and family members gathered.
The news of Dharmendra’s death sent ripples of disbelief across the film industry. At the grand finale of “Bigg Boss 19” on Sunday, host Salman Khan, who had always shown a close bond with Dharmendra, became visibly emotional. “Dharmendra passed away on the 24th of November, on my father Salim Khan’s 90th birthday,” he said, tears in his eyes. “He was the He‑Man of Bollywood, with an innocent face and the body of a He‑Man, with a 60+ years of legacy,” he continued. He went on to remark how Dharmendra’s own birthday – 8th December – oddly coincided with the day of his mother’s. He praised the dignity with which Dharmendra’s funeral was conducted, recalling two other dignified ceremonies he had witnessed: the cremation of filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya’s mother and that of Dharamji. “Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, and the whole family of Dharmendra ji conducted the prayers with so much dignity, love, and grace. It was such a beautiful moment to see so many people celebrate his life with so much love,” he added.
