Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma performs Karva Chauth rituals with wife Geeta, prays for women’s happiness and prosperity

Jaipur, Rajasthan – On October 10, Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and his wife, Geeta Sharma, celebrated the traditional Hindu festival of Karva Chauth in front of a crowd of local residents and online followers.

The festival, held on the fourth day of the dark fortnight in the month of Kartik, is a heartfelt ritual in which married Hindu women fast all day for the well‑being and long life of their husbands. After the sun sets, they break the fast only when they can see the moon, offering a small drink and a bite of food from their husband’s hands.

Chief Minister Sharma walked through the customary steps with Geeta Sharma in a public display of devotion. He shared on the social‑media platform X that Karva Chauth symbolizes love, trust and dedication. He then handed his wife a small cup of water and a handful of the traditional mix of milk, honey, and sugar to break the fast, and together they made a prayer for “happiness, prosperity and good fortune for all women.”

The ceremony highlighted why the festival remains a major celebration for married women across India. It reminds them to pray for a healthy, prosperous life for those they love. Sharma’s post on X drew thousands of responses, with many followers sharing their own Karva Chauth experiences.

Key parts of the Puja

  • Water, milk, kumkum, honey, sandalwood paste (chandan) and sugar
  • Dairy (curd), incense sticks, camphor, and an oil lamp
  • Traditional items such as karwa (a small pot), kalawa (a ritual stick) and roli (cakes)

Women observe a brief pre‑fast meal from their arghya (a small dish), then observe the moon’s first glow through a sieve or cloth, before breaking the fast in a ritual that has been passed down through generations.

Karva Chauth remains one of the most important festivals for married Hindu women, uniting communities and reinforcing the bond between a husband and wife through shared faith and tradition.
